Three-Dimensional Restricted-Orientation Convexity1
A restricted-orientation convex set is a set of points whose intersection with lines from some fixed set is empty or connected. This notion generalizes both standard convexity and orthogonal convexity. We explore basic properties of restricted-orientation convex sets in three dimensions. In particular, we establish analogs of the following properties of standard convex sets: The intersection of...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Orientation of Single Molecules
We demonstrate the ability to determine the three-dimensional orientation of single molecules using cylindrical laser beams. Theory for fields with both radial and azimuthal polarizations is described in Section 2. Fluorescence image of the molecules is obtained from experiment and is presented in Section 3. Combining the theoretical and experimental data, we successfully determined the orienta...
متن کاملThree-dimensional acetabular orientation measurement in a reliable coordinate system among one hundred Chinese
Determining three-dimensional (3D) acetabular orientation is important for several orthopaedic scenarios, but the complex geometries of both pelvis and acetabulum make measurements of orientation unreliable. Acetabular orientation may also differ between the sexes or racial groups. We aimed to (1) establish and evaluate a novel method for measuring 3D acetabular orientation, (2) apply this new ...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Image of A Communicating Uterus
Recent advances in reproductive medicine have created a demand for more accurate and safe imaging modalities before assisted reproductive treatment(ART) (1). Gradually, the important role of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography in the diagnosis of uterine congenital anomalies has been proved (2-4).
متن کاملA three-dimensional steady-state tumor system
The growth of tumors can be modeled as a free boundary problem involving partial differential equations. We consider one such model and compute steady-state solutions for this model. These solutions include radially symmetric solutions where the free boundary is a sphere and nonradially symmetric solutions. Linear and nonlinear stability for these solutions are determined numerically.
